Fun Finds at The 2023 Global Pet Expo
I had the pleasure of attending the Global Pet Expo in my hometown of Orlando, Florida last week. Global Pet is always a lot of fun, full of new innovations in pet products. PR for pet products can be a lot of fun. We often joke that pet clients are some of our favorite clients, and there’s a good reason for that! The people are great and the products are fun!
Here are some of the highlights and trends I noticed while walking the show floor over three days:
Saying Hello to Clients
Adam from SodaPup showcases the latest durable dog toys, lick mats, slow feeder bowls, and other Made in America products.
Jennifer from Distinctly Himalayan took time to explain how their business partners with women’s collectives and artisans to bring contemporary pet products to market.
The team from Smarty Pear shows off their smart litter boxes and techy cat toys to buyers from pet industry retailers all over the world.
Pet Food Innovations
I noticed several trends in pet food and treats. Whole ingredients and human-grade food continue to be popular – I spotted PetPlate attending Global Pet for the first time.
ChiDog takes a holistic approach to pet food, personalizing meals for a pet’s individual needs.
The New Zealand Natural Pet Food Co. drew a crowd at their booth showcasing their high-protein pet food blends. Their dog food features 90% meat, organs, and bones. Their cat is almost entirely made from those high-protein ingredients.
U.K.’s premium Rockster pet food brand attracted buyers and the media with their superfood blend of premium canned dog food, now available in the United States for the first time.
Something Fishy & Exotic
Several pet food brands showcased fish as a health-focused ingredient. I saw several booths marketing fish treats, foods, and supplements. PolkaDog caught my attention with its fun branding and packaging. Meanwhile, Pure Cravings focused on safety with their showcase of the only mercury-tested fish for cats.
Alternative Proteins & Earth-Friendly Products
Arch Pet Food is one of several products touting their Eco-Friendly nature and alternative methods to “big pet industry” traditions.
Walk About Pet showcases exotic proteins like kangaroo and alligator in their pet foods.
Fun Booths & Puppies!
I saw stilt walkers, jugglers, fluffy adoptable pups, and so much more at this year’s Global Pet Expo. We cannot wait to see these items in pet stores across America!
PR for Pet Products
I had the chance to walk around with members of the press during the show to get their take on all of it. This is really a fantastic time to be growing a pet brand, but there is a lot of noise. Public Relations is a great way for small businesses to build a brand’s credibility as they showcase new products to consumers, retailers, and the press!
