Late Winter Season PR Pitches – What We’re Working on Right Now

February 10, 2023 | Amanda Green

If you’re thinking love is in the air, you’d be dead wrong! Valentine’s Day outreach ended weeks ago. The lull between holidays and spring is a time for creativity in PR. It’s the perfect time to build out a client’s press angles and editorial plans for the year. And it’s the perfect time to plant the seeds for big press coverage. Late winter season PR pitches often center on the future. Here’s what we’re working on right now:

Woman’s History Month

March is Woman’s History Month, making it a great time to pitch Woman Owned Businesses. The woman-owned hook alone might be enough for product roundups, but companies should be thinking deeper about what kinds of angles we can give to the press surrounding their woman-owned business for the month of March. Is there a great founder’s story? Does the company do something extraordinary for women’s rights? For women’s health? Think about those angles before pitching to the press.

Spring Gardening

The Spring garden season seems to sneak up fast. These pitches typically start going out in late fall/early winter and then there’s a big push for coverage in February. I’ll let you in on a little secret about PR: if you wait to start pitching your story until the season you want to get coverage in, you’ve waited far too long! Editors work months in advance. So, Spring Gardening is certainly top of mind now.

Spring Break & Summer Travel

Travel editors are always working on great stories, but the Spring Break/Summer Travel hooks always do well with the mainstream press. ‘Must-Haves’ or “Best Products” are great for product roundups, but a news peg would need to go further. Does your product save people time? Money? Make travel more efficient? We’re always looking for a problem-solving solution to give to editors.

Easter Gift Guides

Every mom blogger and mommy media outlet – from the tiniest nano influencer to top-tier parenting magazines – publishes an Easter Basket gift guide. This is the time to get Easter-themed media pitches in front of editors and writers. Toys, games, trinkets, etc all do well in Easter baskets. It’s a simple product pitch, but it works!

Moms, Dads, and Grads

Speaking of gift guides, there are plenty of them to pitch for in February. Right now, we’re pitching products related to moms, dads, and grads. These are for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Graduation gifts. Editors want to see items that are new and exciting. A simple pearl necklace or necktie won’t get many pickups on its own. That’s where PR and creative pitching come in. We come up with angles that tie it to timely, relevant topics.
