1. What’s the best thing about your job?

I’d say the anticipation and thrill of the next big media feature for a client. I’ll never forget my very first major media placement 13 years ago and that feeling of seeing incredible exposure for my client and all the hard work come to fruition in front of millions of people. It’s commonplace at Orca to see hits for clients in leading media outlets – just in the last week or so we’ve had clients in Redbook, Consumer Reports, About.comHuffingtonPost.com and on Tyra Banks’ TV show FABLife. I still get just as excited as when I first started in PR each time one of our publicists scores a blockbuster media feature. That feeling never gets old!

2. What’s the top advice you would give budding inventors and entrepreneurs?

Invest in PR, of course! In all seriousness, before starting any active marketing effort for your business or product – such as a public relations campaign – the first thing you should do is make sure your packaging and your website look professional and aesthetically pleasing. Also, be sure your website is easy to navigate and not cluttered. Typically, you only get one chance to make a first impression with editors and producers, especially at top-tier outlets.

3. What would you say is your biggest guilty pleasure?

Baking decadent confections from scratch! I can often be found in the kitchen whipping up a new indulgent dessert recipe. Two of my faves: cinnamon rolls and a double chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting – they’re just sinfully good! I’m lucky to have four little ‘helpers’ that love to assist with pouring the flour and creaming the butter and sugar.
